This page outlines trainings available for families that are adopting through the Wisconsin Public Adoption Program. Your adoption worker will help you to determine which are appropriate for you to complete based on your individual situation. There may also be additional required training beyond what is listed below.

Foster Parent Pre-Placement

The web-based Foster Parent Pre-Placement Training is designed to meet or support the pre-placement training requirements for foster parents, depending upon Level of Care certification.

Foster Parent Foundation

The Foster Parent Foundation training is a ten-module curriculum that explores the key aspects of foster parenting, focusing on both knowledge and skill building. Click here for more information about dates and locations of available classes.

Public Adoption Training: Building Forever Families-Fostering to Forever (6 Hrs.)

This 6-hour training is designed for foster parents who have been licensed by the county or a private agency, have received foster care placement of a child and have now been identified as the adoptive resource for the child(ren). Pre-adoptive parents will gain an understanding of how to make the transition of being a foster parent to becoming a child’s forever parent. The class builds upon specific Foster Parent Foundation modules and highlights additional information specific to adoption. Public Adoption Training: Building Forever Families (3 days)

This 3-day training is designed for pre-adoptive parents who are licensed and approved for adoption by a Public Adoption agency. Participants will gain an understanding of who the children are in the Wisconsin public child welfare system, learn strategies to address the changes that occur within the family system, as well gain an understanding of the legal process that leads to an adoption in Wisconsin.  This class meets 19 of the 25 hours required pre-adoption training.
